Mayor is a folklorist who made her mark in 2001 with her book, The First Fossil Hunters: Paleontology in Greek and Roman Times, in which she tried to link various dinosaur and prehistoric mammal fossils to specific mythological creatures and legends. In this new book, Fossil Legends of the First Americans she attempts to do the same thing with fossils and Native American myths. Whether you buy into her arguments or not, the book is worth picking up if only for the great Pete Von Sholly cover.
